Tax contributions comment
The McCain-Feingold (Shays) bill (Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002) became aFederal Law that amended the Federal Election Campaign Act. As we know, the ability to rein in uncontrolled campaign contributions became a First Amendment argument with serious consequences against the control of influential money in elections. The results were the more money you have the more influence your vote has.
The dire need to reduce the national debt is in our faces. Every little effort from any area will help reduce that debt. To help with the debt to some small degree I propose the following: TAX ALL POLITICAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS (federal, state and local).
Taxes are to be paid by those parties, organizations, and individuals that receive campaign funds. Tax the ‘free’ money (campaign contributions) politicians receive. Use the taxes collected to support the costs of government infrastructure of buildings, vehicles and energy necessary to keep our government offices open and safe. Taxes could support politicians’ health care, and pensions. We tax vehicles because money is needed to support road infrastructure. Politicians need to have a place to function. They need to support all the benefits they receive and government infrastructure they use.
Each year nearly three billion dollars are given to politicians and political parties/organizations.
Argument in support of such a law:
Giving money to your candidate is no different than gambling. Put all the money you want on your ‘horse’ there is still no guaranteeing it’ll win. It’s gambling, tax it.
Money is given to candidates and their organizations for a service. The money should be taxed.
Money should support Democracy not politics, politicians or ideologies.
Campaign contributions do not produce anything of value.
Come on shameless Congress, let's see you step to the 'tip of the spear' and show America that politicians are willing to sacrifice some of their 'free' money to help reduce the debt. Such a gesture may inspire others to sacrifice a little.
TAX ALL POLITICAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS! EXCESSIVELY!
